چکیده
Abstract Hydroelastic responses of floating elastic surfaces to incident nonlinear waves solitary and cnoidal type are studied. There N number the deformable surfaces, these represented by thin plates variable properties different sizes rigidity. The coupled motion fluid solved simultaneously within framework linear beam theory for structures Level I Green–Naghdi fluid. water surface elevation, deformations velocity pressure fields, wave reflection transmission coefficients calculated presented. Results model compared with existing laboratory measurements other numerical solutions. In absence any restriction on nonlinearity field, their rigidities, a wide range wave–structure conditions considered. It is found that from an changes significantly rigidity, highest observed when plate rigid (not elastic). also due interaction, local fields length celerity formed under plates. case multiple it spacing between has more significant effect field than lengths. Also, presence relatively smaller upwave modifies remarkably deformation response downwave surface.

Modelling nonlinear hydroelastic waves.
This paper uses the special Cosserat theory of hyperelastic shells satisfying Kirchoff's hypothesis and irrotational flow theory to model the interaction between a heavy thin elastic sheet and an infinite ocean beneath it. From a general discussion of three-dimensional motions, involving an Eulerian description of the flow and a Lagrangian description of the elastic sheet, a special case of two...
متن کاملHydroelastic response of a floating runway to cnoidal waves
The hydroelastic response of mat-type Very Large Floating Structures (VLFSs) to severe sea conditions, such as tsunamis and hurricanes, must be assessed for safety and survivability. An efficient and robust nonlinear hydroelastic model is required to predict accurately the motion of and the dynamic loads on a VLFS due to such large waves. We develop a nonlinear theory to predict the hydroelasti...
متن کاملWell-Posedness of Two-Dimensional Hydroelastic Waves
A well-posedness theory for the initial value problem for hydroelastic waves in two spatial dimensions is presented. This problem, which arises in numerous applications, describes the evolution of a thin elastic membrane in a two-dimensional potential flow. We use a model for the elastic sheet that accounts for bending stresses and membrane tension, but which neglects the mass of the membrane. ...

We study hydroelastic waves in interfacial flow of two-dimensional irrotational fluids. Each of the fluids is taken to be of infinite extent in one vertical direction, and bounded by a free surface in the other vertical direction. Elastic effects are considered at the free surface; this can describe physical settings such as the ocean bounded above by a layer of ice. A previous study proved wel...
متن کاملInteraction of highly nonlinear solitary waves with linear elastic media.
We study the interaction of highly nonlinear solitary waves propagating in granular crystals with an adjacent linear elastic medium. We investigate the effects of interface dynamics on the reflection of incident waves and on the formation of primary and secondary reflected waves. Experimental tests are performed to correlate the linear medium geometry, materials, and mass with the formation and...
